Senior Valentina Valecillos, a competitive swimmer of three years, is in her final year of representing the Bay’s Swim and Dive team. Valecillos said what motivates her most is her hunger for improvement, so she trains vigorously every day. From swimming at the Weston Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) to working out in the gym, Valecillos enjoys the thrill of challenging herself and constantly tries to push herself further.
“My event is all about perfection, if you make even the slightest mistake you lose your chance of going your time, so it has always been exciting to see how far it is possible to push that boundary.”
Valecillos is a repeat State competitor, Sectional qualifier, and aside from her personal records, she is proud that she is able to call herself captain and grateful for the opportunity to model leadership for her team.
“I am most proud of being able to lead such a wonderful group of athletes. It brings me so much joy to see these swimmers, the new and the old, grow and continue to get better.”
