V WATER POLO
SET D #3
JUNIOR 6’0″

So far this season, the boys water polo team at the Bay has gone 5-1 with new student junior Beny Rays, as their starting set D. Currently, the team is preparing for the annual Forza Stefano Water Polo Tournament, practicing every day at the Weston YMCA with the hopes of placing. Rays said that to him, the regularity of training daily is more important than any pre-game rituals.

“I do not think that anything that we do even 30 minutes before the game is so important,” Rays said. “Consistent practice is the most important.”

Rays’ game mindset and preparation has translated into results. In their game on Feb. 5, against Palm Beach Central High School, Rays was the leading shooter, resulting in a 20-3 win for the Bay. After competing for over half of a decade, Rays plays for enjoyment more than a future in the sport. He said that he would like to prioritize academics and other interests rather than collegiate sports.

“I do not want to continue playing in college, I do not think I am performing at the level to do that, and I want to focus on other things in the college,” Rays said. “To be honest, I am still figuring my future out.”
