JUNIOR 5’11
“Hard work pays off”
According to Entertainment Sports Programming Network (ESPN), track and field is the first olympic sport dating back to 776 B.C. The sport is extremely rigorous and features a variety of difficult events. Junior Chase Barnet, a dedicated runner for the Bay’s track and field team, said that he has enjoyed running since he was younger and it inspired him to try out for the school team.
“Track has changed me into a more disciplined and hard working person. I chose this sport because I always enjoyed running, it keeps me calm,” Barnet said. “I just wanted to try it out but I fell in love with it instead.”
Barnet said that he has long practices almost everyday so it can be very draining. However, he said that he would not have been able to reach his high score of 11.02 in the 100’s and 22.1 in the 200’s without the amount of practice. As much as he loves being a part of the team, Barnet said that there are many drawbacks.
“Challenges I face are things like injuries and trying to improve my times. I get over these hard times by taking care of my body and making sure I am always okay even when I am pushing myself to work harder,” Barnet said. “Aside from the setbacks, my favorite thing about being on the team is being able to get better everyday because it shows that hard work pays off.”
