V WRESTLING
JUNIOR 5’10”

Currently in his 5th year of wrestling, junior Stefan Betancourt has his mind set on success, both personally and athletically. Betancourt began wrestling in middle school when Falcon Cove began offering a wrestling program. Since then, he said he has gained valuable skills like discipline and resilience that will help him reach his goals, even when the team hits a rough patch.

“This season has been a bit rough for the team as a whole, as last year a good percentage of our team graduated and we got a new head coach at the start of this season,” Betancourt said. “However, I feel we have been doing well to make up for our lost ground as several of our young wrestlers have been doing very well and even winning tournaments.”

Coming from a line of Olympic wrestlers, Betancourt said he plans on trying to wrestle professionally if he gets an offer from a school he is interested in, however it is not his priority. Right now, he said he wants to focus on his current team and performance.

“For the rest of the season our goal as a team and individually is to get past regionals and make it to states,” Betancourt said. “At the moment I have a 22-13 record but we have teammates who are striving for an almost undefeated record.”
