V FLAG FOOTBALL
WIDE RECIEVER #4
JUNIOR 5’7
“I hope next year will be even better.”
The Bay’s girls Flag Football team season came to an end on April 21, and despite an unfortunate loss to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, wide receiver junior Julia Carvallo said her team played very well this year. Carvallo said her faith in the team was why she was disappointed by their loss.
“I really thought we would make it deeper into the playoffs because we trained really hard,” Carvallo said. “We lost to Marjory Stoneman Douglas 31-0 and also lost to Western high school 13-6 which is way less than Douglas lost to Western but they locked in out of nowhere and later ended up beating Western. They got a lot better throughout the season which surprised me. Even though we did not win, I am proud of how my team and I played and I hope next year will be even better.”
Carvallo said her coaches ran a strict program and pushed the team past their limits everyday during the regular season. She said that daily practice after school was insanely tiring in combination with her studies as a student.
“We had practice everyday from when the last period bell rang to around 5:00 PM except Fridays. It was tiring, especially because our season was held in early spring, so it was hot and humid outside,” Carvallo said. “I have other extracurriculars and a lot of homework everyday, so it definitely was not easy to balance everything. After a while I found a good rhythm and stuck to it. I am grateful I was able to manage everything without experiencing burnout.”
