During his past three years as a football player at the Bay, junior Beckett Couch said he learned many meaningful lessons, not only through his personal experiences, but from his teammates, coaches and family. From watching the game through his youth to now playing on the varsity team, Couch said his journey with football has changed greatly.

“Starting out as a freshman, I learned a lot from the upperclassmen and those with more experience. I have progressed since then, and now want to build and compile that same culture and respect to have a lasting effect on the Bay,” Couch said. “What made me want to continue playing is the brotherhood that [football] offers and the true camaraderie developed as we all endure hardships together.”

Couch said some of these hardships include training and games. He said that to work through this and lead by example, he strives to hold both himself and his team accountable for their actions, not just on the field, but off the field as well.

“Long summer workouts as well as grueling practices are worth the sacrifice and ultimately build into the games and building a team culture,” Couch said. “The biggest lesson football has taught me is to listen more and respect what people with more experience have to say. This has allowed me to learn over the years and improve overall as a player.”
